Update from Father Fitzgerald on the Structural Work at the Front of the Church

05-20-2018Pastor's LetterRev. Richard W. Fitzgerald, V.F.

By now, most of you will have received the solicitation letter in the mail to cover the cost of the repairs to the front stained glass window and the bell tower of the church building. If you have not received a mailing, you may pick one up at the entrances of the church. Please pray about this need and how you can best help with this project.

I am sure you could not help but notice that the large scaffolding at the front of the church which goes up to the large round stained glass window now encompasses the front and side of the church bell tower.

The large round stained glass window pieces have been removed for repair and replacement and the cracks in the tower are being evaluated for repair. All of the estimates for the repairs have not been received but it is obvious that it will probably be in excess of $150,000.00.

As I previously noted, the parish does not have the funds to cover these expenses and will necessitate a significant funding campaign in the parish. We will be informing you of the details in the very near future. Many people who visit St. Columbkille’s comment about the beauty of our church. However, very few understand the maintenance requirements of such a building. Please pray about this need as we get the more specific details for this project.
